Mushroom coffee

Mushroom coffee

Mushroom coffee is an increasingly popular form of mental and physical support. It may sound a bit abstract, but contrary to appearances, it really works!

After all, the effects of mushroom extracts (e.g. chaga, reishi, lion’s mane, cordyceps) on health, cognitive functions, brain function, physical exertion and protection of the body have often been discussed, so you know they will prove helpful. This time, however, we are combining them with coffee, or rather caffeine. What is this about?

Mushroom coffee – start with caffeine…

As the name suggests, one of the ingredients of our magic blend will be coffee. You certainly know it well. In fact, many of you probably cannot imagine a day without a cup or mug of coffee, right? We know that well... This is because caffeine, the main component of the drink, has a stimulating effect on the nervous system.

Thanks to this, we feel less tired, have energy to act, and our ability to concentrate soars. In the morning, it also lets us wake up faster, bringing us to a functional state — as we know, sometimes a proper sleep is not that easy (which is a pity, because the quality and length of sleep are extremely important).

Coffee, or more precisely caffeine, blocks adenosine receptors and affects catecholamine activity. Hence the higher energy level, less fatigue and its delayed onset. Unfortunately, there is also another side of the coin... Apart from the fact that coffee is not suitable for everyone (depending on their health status), if we drink it regularly, over time we develop caffeine tolerance, which is related precisely to the receptors mentioned above.

Simply put: the same amount no longer works as well, so we drink more to achieve the earlier, satisfactory effect. Of course, everyone has different sensitivity and a different ability to metabolize the compound, so the degree of effect will also vary.

Well, then, where is this “mushroom coffee” and what does it have to do with it? I’ll explain. For the best results, mushroom extracts are most often combined with espresso, that is, that “little coffee” with a large, concentrated kick. If you are coffee lovers, or if you drink too much of it, you may not get the full potential out of the blend.

What to do? If mushroom coffee is something you want to try, the best option in such a case will be to take a break from the drink for some time. The body will rest, the adenosine receptors will be “cleared out”, and the favorite beverage will once again work as well as before.

By the way, during a gradual “caffeine withdrawal”, adaptogens and/or sulbutiamine work well to reduce withdrawal effects while still somehow functioning.

Mushroom coffee – the power of mushroom extracts

Now that you already have a basic idea of how caffeine works and know what to expect, it would be worth looking at the proper introduction of extracts from the so-called vital mushrooms. A much better option will be to direct your attention to separate supplements in powdered form, suitable for creating a blend. Why separate extracts? Then it will be much easier to choose the right proportions and individual amounts.

Most often, extracts of Chaga and lion’s mane, also known as Yamabushitake, are added to regular coffee or a stronger espresso, which I personally recommend for this purpose. Of course, you can also use other mushrooms, adding e.g. reishi or cordyceps — depending on the desired effect. We simply add the powdered supplement to our drink and mix thoroughly. Mushroom coffee is not among the tastiest, but the effects are striking. It is worth mentioning that it will work both for mental and physical exertion. In addition to caffeine, we also get the properties of the mushrooms mentioned. Among them, Chaga is a true queen when it comes to antioxidant properties, and it additionally boosts immunity and regulates blood sugar levels.

It has a positive effect on energy levels and energy metabolism itself. Mainly thanks to PPAR activation, which will also result in benefits in the form of improved physical performance. Chaga is considered a nootropic agent. It improves cognitive functions, the ability to remember (memory), brain function and the efficient course of thought processes.

Lion’s mane, on the other hand, is a natural nootropic agent with, among other things, neuroprotective and nephroprotective effects. Studies confirm that its administration improves cognitive functions, while also improving well-being and alleviating anxiety / depressive states. Of course, it is also characterized by antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has a beneficial effect on the immune system.

Lion’s mane and chaga, together with caffeine, will make a great combination due to the fact that such a blend can produce good effects both in the context of short-term, immediate (“here and now”) use, as well as long-term use.

Mushroom coffee – what to expect and why is it effective?

After coffee with mushroom extracts, you can expect, in essence, all the positives associated with the properties of the individual ingredients of the blend. What is important is that the proper selection of ingredients in our coffee will stimulate BDNF, i.e. brain-derived neurotrophic factor, as well as NGF, the so-called nerve growth factor.

By stimulating BDNF, whose area of action is primarily the central and peripheral nervous system, we create the right conditions for the formation of entirely new neural connections. In addition, we positively influence cognitive functions and the so-called long-term memory. On the other hand, by using such a blend of extracts, we contribute to improved short-term memory and a quick boost in concentration when the situation requires it.

Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and neurodegeneration-reducing properties are also responsible for the positive effect on the brain and nervous system.

What will mushroom coffee give you?

  • quick increase in energy for action,
  • increase in concentration in a short time,
  • improved thought processes and mental clarity,
  • better well-being,
  • health benefits / health-promoting benefits,
  • better conditions for new neural connections,
  • improvement of long-term and short-term memory,
  • reduction of fatigue and delayed onset,
  • support for physical and mental exertion.
